Habitat for Humanity New Build

Update:
Our volunteers have been working hard the past few weeks and all the exterior walls and interior walls are framed up.  All the plywood siding is nailed on the exterior walls.  This past Saturday we set the trusses and began putting up the fascia boards.  This week we’ll begin decking the roof with the plywood and, once again, that means lots of nailing so we need as many people as possible to come on by and pound a few nails.  Once the roof decking, blocking, and bracing are done we can request our first inspection and hopefully move onto installing the exterior doors and windows.
A good turnout and lots accomplished.  All the exterior walls are up and about half of the plywood siding is on.  We will not work on Saturday the 23rd due to the long Memorial Day weekend but will be back on the 30th to finish the siding and begin the interior framing.  We still need help with the nailing so please come out on the 30th and I guarantee a good time and maybe a free t-shirt.  Address is 320 S. Winslow.  1.8 miles east of St Peters on New York Ave., turn right on Winslow.
West Volusia Habitat For Humanity is planning to build two houses this year and needs our help with the first one. On Saturday, May 16th from 8:00 until noon we’ll begin building a new home for a very excited single mother. She’ll be there to help and have the honor of pounding the first nail as well as meeting all the volunteers. She is a single mother living with her two children ages 4 and 14. She has already completed 150 hours of her required 200 hours of sweat equity.
Saturday the 16th is framing day where we’ll raise the exterior walls and begin nailing the plywood siding all around.
If you’re 16 or older we need your help. Many of our more mature volunteers have gone north for the summer, so we need a little younger crew of workers to get the job done. We have a lot of hammers but we need someone to pound the nails. Its going to be like an Amish barn raising and guaranteed to be a good time for everyone. Even if you can’t hammer a nail we still have lots of other things to do.
One of our regular volunteers mentioned to me the other day that if people come out just once they’ll see how much fun we have. It truly is a lot of fun and a great way to spend a few hours helping others.
We’ll have coffee and donuts at 7:30 and lunch around noon. The property address is 320 South Winslow which is off east New York Ave about 1.8 miles from the church. Turn right onto South Winslow which is the second street past Hill Avenue. Go a block and a half to the job site. The directions are also in the bulletin.
If you can’t make it this Saturday, plan on the next one, or the one after that. Watch the web site for any scheduling changes but, we plan on working each Saturday and Tuesday for the next few months and your help is always welcome. Habitat For Humanity is a Christian Ministry that provides descent affordable housing for families here is West Volusia County. Please come and us build this new home for a very worthy and excited family.
