First reconciliation is normally received during the second year of religious Instruction and during the Lenten season. In order to be enrolled for preparation of this sacrament a candidate needs to:

  1. Be a baptized Catholic
  2. Have completed one full year of religious education or Catholic school
  3. Attend sacramental classes
  4. A parent needs to attend sacramental classes with their child.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a unique opportunity for our children to experience the mercy and healing of our loving God. We want to encourage you and your child(ren) to take the time to prepare for and to celebrate this Sacrament of Forgiveness and Healing.

The decision to begin this Sacramental Preparation process should be based on your child’s(ren’s) readiness and maturity. We currently invite students in second grade or higher to prepare.

All Religious Formation and Sacramental Preparation is designed with the understanding that you as parent(s) are the primary and best educators of your children. Thus, First Reconciliation, like First Communion, is a sacramental tradition that is passed on to the child by parents through the use of home preparation textbooks.

We will be conducting a parent’s only session to assist you in this process and to acquaint you with the home textbook program.
